left in North Carolina

This painting is long gone. It is from a vintage book (one that came from Spruce Pine). I chose it because of the crazy glass and bright candy colors. The background was always a struggle. I painted and repainted many times.

Kevin had it in his truck when he was at a job site in NC. The decorator for the house bought it out of his truck to put in a little girl's room. It think the setting is very appropiate.

Skate Mate!

This combines my love of stripes, vintage imagery and ice skating! Even though I am from the great state of Alabama, I learned how to ice skate at a very early age. I always had my own skates and we went almost every weekend. Decatur has the southern most open air ice skating rink. Who knew....

oldie but goodie

This is a very old painting. Desert Plate was the first "successful" painting I did in grad school. I really used the medium to emulate the cherry and textured medium for the nuts. It is small -20" x20".

This painting is interesting to me. I made my own jello and then photographed it. It is painted photorealistically with acrylic underpainting and oil glazes. Jell-o has some crazy reflections. This painting in many ways is related to my old work in undergrad. At that time I was abstracting food and turning them into weird landscapes. I stopped doing those in grad school because I hated the browns in meat. I love the artificial color in Jell-o.

Flamin' Paintin'

I did this painting last fall. It was a long painting. I probably spent over 200 hours on it.

The image came out of a book I bought in Spruce Pine, NC at an antiques store. An arsonist burned down the antiques store this summer.

New Work

I thought I would start this out by posting some new work. Some are new long paintings.... some are new very short paintings. I might throw in some crafts as well. Enjoy!
