Wrapping up the summer

HB and I finally got the stretchers built and the canvas stretched on this enormous 6' x 9' painting. It is too big for my studio so the living room has become my temporary studio. I had some touch up work to do from the shipping. Also I had to finish some of the background. I am very close to being done with this. I am still leaning towards "Jello Shot" for this one. Let me know if you have any better ideas.

Treasures from the DAV in Memphis.... It is my favorite thrift store. We used to have sculpture field trips there in college. I always find good (scary) stuff on Summer Ave.

Where the sun is fierce...

I am back in Mississippi. My last week at MacDowell was pretty amazing. I had an open studio which was attended by all the "cool people." An old old friend visited and the weather was amazing (finally). I am almost finished with the giant painting (title TBA). I have some work to do on the background. Now, I am enjoying all the amenities of modern life!

Sunday roundup

I made it to the yarn store in Harrisville. It was a beautiful drive through rural NH to the mill town of Harrisville. They sell the yarn in the store to make "hardy new england sweaters". I really have little need for "hardy new england sweaters" so I bought some fingering weight yarn to make some kind of mittens. I loved all the colors.

this is the gazebo right up from my studio. I eat my lunch there on a pretty day. We have had 2 sunny days thus far. Today it is raining....
Here is the inside of my lunch basket. They love Thermos products here. We had soup, cookie, and a sandwich.

field trip to the cabin

Yesterday was sunny, so I decided to explore....

I headed down from my studio to MacDowell's Cabin. This is a log cabin studio built for Edward MacDowell at the turn of the century. I am not sure if anyone ever used it. It is amazingly preserved- furniture and all. I love how massive it is for a small 10"x 12" studio.

One of the sculptor, Will Lamson, created this awesome basketball hoop for the field. I love the scale and size of the piece. It almost looked like it made sense there...

It was finally sunny today and I went for a little field trip to the amphitheatre.

Colony Hall- This is where we eat breakfast and dinner, check our mail, have lectures, play ping pong, etc.
The library is the home of wireless.

Here is the inside of the studio. Around the fireplace are plaques with everyone who has been in the studio since 1900. There are some intimidating names who called Cheney home.

So I am here in New Hampshire. MacDowell is lovely and the food is fantastic! It is raining today, but yesterday was beautiful. Here are some pictures of my studio, Cheney. Let me know if you have some questions. I'll take some photos of my room and the public spaces soon.
